Recovering From Bariatric Surgery
2SB is the Specialty Surgical unit at Southwest General Hospital. Nurses are highly skilled in caring for orthopedic, spinal and metabolic weight loss surgery patients.
Metabolic weight loss surgery patients have a standardized pathway of care. Pain management is customized to each individual patient based upon the surgeon’s specifications. We encourage patients to talk with their surgeons and the nurses pre-operatively and throughout the recovery to address pain control.
Additionally, for our diabetic patients, we have a team of dedicated diabetic educators that will collaborate with you, as well as nurses and physicians to make appropriate adjustments to diabetic medications.
It’s our commitment to get you up and active as soon as safely possible. A nurse will work with you to get you up and moving within 3 hours, post surgery.
Prior to discharge from Southwest General Hospital, you may be visited by a registered dietician to discuss your meal plan for the remainder of your recovery. Lastly, a licensed RN will visit you to assess your readiness for discharge.
