Brachytherapy: A More Direct Way to Treat Prostate Cancer
Brachytherapy offered at Southwest General Hospital is a new form of prostate cancer treatment that involves implanting radioactive seeds directly into the tumor. Brachytherapy enables the physician to apply a higher dose of radiation to the tumor, while avoiding healthy tissue and organs. This localized, precise treatment has been shown to be a powerful weapon in the fight against certain cancers, including:

  • Prostate cancer
  • Breast cancer
  • Gynecological cancer
  • Cancers of the head and neck
  • Sarcomas and miscellaneous tumors that can be implanted with CT guidance

For most patients, Brachytherapy treatment has very few side effects.
