Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Center Receives National Accreditation

Southwest General Hospital’s Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Center has achieved accreditation by the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society. The Center becomes one of only two civilian hospitals in San Antonio that is accredited by the UHMS. "It is a moment of pride for all of us working at the Southwest Center for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine as we strive to provide the best possible care to our patients on the South Side,” said Dr. Jayesh Shah, Medical Director of the Center.

The program is voluntary on the part of the facility and assesses a variety of patient care and safety related issues. A team of experts performs the survey that includes surveying the staffing and training, the installation in general, operation and maintenance of equipment, facility and patient safety and standards of care. The UHMS is an international, non-profit organization that serves over 2,500 members from more than 50 countries.

W.T. Workman, MS, Director, Quality Assurance & Regulatory Affairs, UHMS said, “Achieving this milestone reflects the Southwest Center for Wound Care’s commitment to excellence.”

Southwest General Hospital is a 291-bed acute care facility on the southwest quadrant of the city. The hospital is currently undergoing a $30 million expansion that will increase capacity in The BirthPlace and additional state-of-the-art OR suites.
