Southwest General Hospital has provided high-quality healthcare for residents of southwest San Antonio for over 30 years and continues to be the only healthcare facility in this section of the city. Southwest General is a 327-bed facility staffed by experienced healthcare professionals. The hospital is committed to providing high-quality health services and an excellent patient experience. Southwest General has earned numerous distinctions for quality, including a HealthGrades 5-star rating for maternity care seven years in a row, HealthGrades 5-star in heart failure, sepsis, pneumonia and COPD.

  • Emergency Medicine
    26-bed emergency department providing care for major emergencies and a fast-track clinic for minor cases
  • Heart Care
    Southwest General Hospital opened a state-of-the-art catheterization laboratory in 2008. It also performed its first open heart surgery in 2008. We have also earned our Chest Pain Accreditation from the Society of Chest Pain Centers
  • Women’s Health
    The BirthPlace has earned a 5-star rating for maternity care from HealthGrades for seven years in a row and includes labor and delivery, postpartum care and a Level III neonatal intensive care unit
  • Diagnostic Imaging
    Advanced imaging technology includes CT Scan, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, Digital Mammography and Ultrasound
  • Rehabilitation Services
    Inpatient rehabilitation unit and outpatient services including physical, occupational and speech therapies

    Inpatient units for adult and geriatric patients and partial hospitalization services

    Comprehensive diabetes program with a certificate of distinction from Joint Commission for the management of inpatient diabetes care

    Nationally accredited by the Underseas and Hyperbaric Medical Society with comprehensive wound care options and hyperbaric oxygen therapy
